This is a QR code reader that I have found to work the best of all the QR code readers.

Google Translate
Here is another Google App that they have ported from the web version to the iOS. This app will allow you to dictate something in one language and then return a translation in another. It can speak the common languages and do text conversions for 50 languages. The only snag is you will need an internet connection to make it work.

The Daily

I downloaded The Daily App for iPad yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the experience. The app is free and the first two weeks have been sponsored by Verizon (thanks Verizon!!)
The first thing I noticed was that the application is large (45Mb) and that does not include the content! Once downloaded and installed it began to download content. An error message warned that my 1Megabit connection was a "slow connection" did I want to continue?
The interface is well designed, you interact with pages in a coverflow that shows each page. Some pages seem to overlap to other pages especially with pictures on them. Blue arrows tell you if more is available for a story.
Once at the story level you move through the content by swiping left or right. An indicator at the top of the window show where you are in the Daily. News, Gossip, Opinion, Arts & Life, Apps & Games and Sports are the categories you see listed across the top.
Among the features that I enjoyed in the first issue was a crossword, sudoku, an animated explanation of the "Shovel Pass" used by the Pittsburgh steelers and a bunch of other cool stuff.
There are movie trailers embedded in the movie reviews, the ads are there and are attractive and give the feel of a magazine rather than a newspaper.
Bottom line: I don't know if I will want to pay the $0.95 per week to keep the content coming to this app but certainly it shows a lot of promise and really demonstrates well what this device is capable of. Lets hope that textbook and other publishers are taking notes.
Price: Free (0.95 per week after 2 week free trial)
